From the Principal’s Desk:
Welcome back from March Break! We have lots of exciting news this week:
- we give thanks and praise to God that, despite a car accidentally backing into the building on Monday, we escaped any injuries. We are working with the driver to correct the damages, and we’re moving forward with the details of that.
- our board will tender a very tight budget to our membership in April. We continue to grow into a new, larger steady state. We are relying on continued significant donations and fundraising to reduce the tuition cost to families. However, our budget will allow us to respect student-teacher ratios in primary by hiring an additional teacher, and we trust that 8 additional families will be led to enrol at ICS (any grade) to cover that cost. Since that meeting, we have 2 new enrolments committed to - I will run a tally in this column weekly. Who else will God lead to consider Christian education for their children at ICS?
- this Saturday, please take advantage of the 60th Anniversary Open House and Gala to connect and celebrate what God has, is and will do through His people working faithfully in the Christian upbringing of their children! See you there!

Did you hear? The Supreme Court recently heard the case of the private Catholic Loyola College in a case of religious freedom. In summary, the Court decision is a "win" for faith based private schools in Canada. Andre Schouten, representing a coalition of Christian schools in the case, states, "Thankfully, the Court was unanimous in finding that religious communities can teach their own faith to their children from their perspective." Although the judges have a split decision on other aspects of the case, this fundamental interference at Loyola is properly curtailed. Read more at: http://www.cardus.ca/blog/2015/03/total-victory. 2015 New Registration - With plans for an additional teacher, all grades continue to be open! Parents of JK and SK children step into school at ICS with tuition at 40% and 60% of full tuition respectively. Our board continues to support our New to Christian Education Incentive which allows parents of older children to step into Christian schooling at the same rates - 40% the first year, 60% the second, family tuition thereafter. This allows all to “taste and see” how good Immanuel can be! Please spread the word!

Harvest of the Month: In partnership with SCORE Food Hub, we are pleased to be part of the “Harvest of the Month” program. This concept/program will provide ICS with 1 free produce product, delivered monthly to the school until June 2015. The additional fun spin will be information provided on the produce as well. Was it grown locally? What can you make with it? etc. For the month of March the local produce delivered yesterday were apples.

ICS 60th Anniversary Gala - Sat Mar 28
WOW! Over 320 seats filled for the ICS 60th Anniversary Fundraiser Gala this Saturday!!
For all those who have their tickets - THANK YOU! You are in for a wonderful evening of great food, top notch entertainment, photo booth fun, and a fancy room full of 60 years of memorabilia and familiar faces - see you Saturday!

If you are new to ICS, this event is a unique opportunity to learn more about the school and the interesting history behind it - to bring us where we are today, and because you and your children are now part of ICS's story too!
ICS Open House
We will also hold an Open House at ICS involving students, current and former teachers, parents, grandparents, community members and alumni on Sat from 2-4 pm. We will feature classrooms displaying proud student work, as well as an inflatable maze and games in the gym. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration of 60 years of God’s faithfulness at ICS!
Thank you! We now have enough parent and student volunteers for a primary games station, a junior games station, and a senior games / bouncy castle supervision station in the gym:
The teacher assigned to your station will be in contact with you to chat on game ideas and supervision. Mr. Cameron will be available throughout to circulate and check on the gym. We'd want to set up in time for 1:45 pm on Saturday, with doors open right at 2.

Chess Tournament: Will be held on Wednesday April 1st at the Hellenic Community Center, 133 Southdale Rd. W in London. The schedule for the day has been sent home along with the permission forms. Please return the forms to the office if you have not already done so.
Hockey: Just before the March break, the ICS Hockey team was blessed with the opportunity to participate in the 44th Annual District Christian School Hockey Tournament in Strathroy. The ICS team placed second after playing against all the other schools in the Small Schools Division. In the semi-finals, the team lost to Wallaceburg. Great effort and sportmanship was evident throughout the day! Thank you to all the family members and friends for their support and encouragement during the practices and at the tournament. A special thank you to the coaching staff, Mr. S. Vandersleen, Mr. D. VanGurp, Mr. J. Vannoord, Mr. K. Vannoord, and to others who shared their time, skills, and hockey knowledge.
We are pleased to announce that the date has been set for this year’s 15th Annual Golf Tournament. This will be special year with more prizes and contests for your enjoyment. Contests include Most Uniquely Dressed Golfer, Longest Drive with Opposite Driver and many more. The Golf Tournament is being held once again @ Pine Knot Golf Course in Dorchester on Saturday May 16. Spare Drivers: We are in need of Spare Bus Drivers to be available as required to fill in on routes. A valid B License is required. We will assist anyone interested in obtaining their

LIBRARY NEWS: Before the break, all students were given a pink slip of paper listing library materials they have currently checked out on their record. Unless they have already been renewed, all materials are due or overdue tomorrow. Pack them into your backpack tonight! If you cannot find an item and think it may already be returned, please let Mrs. Robinson know. We’ll double check the shelves. Mathletics: ICS has entered the Mathletics March Madness Competition. This is a national Math challenge focused on students mastering curriculum activities and practicing their mental math skills. Prizes will be awarded for top performing schools. Encourage you child(ren) to log in and show you from home!

Science Field Trip: Why are birds so amazing? The magnificent tundra swans have finally returned to southwestern Ontario! We are looking forward to our afternoon Field Trip on Thursday, April 2, to the Aylmer Wildlife Management Area Habitat, thought to be the best place in North America, to see wild swans up close! The tundra swans are making their Spring migration between their Atlantic coast watering areas and arctic coastline breeding grounds. Local swan expert, Mr. Keith Malcom, said he suspects that the timing of the migration depends on the weather conditions, and that the arrival of the swans this year as well as last year, has been delayed due to our longer, colder winters. We are looking forward to being able to observe many other birds as well, both migratory and non-migratory species: Canada Geese, Mergansers, Teals, Mallard, Wood Ducks and many other fowl, along with some of the more common birds. “The robins have arrived here just ahead of the swans,” said Mr. Malcolm. He will be receiving us at the Aylmer Viewing Area next Thursday. We would require one or two adult supervisors to accompany us on this outing. Please call me at school or at home, if you are able to accompany us on our outing. Any further details will be included in next week’s Journal. Thank you!

Science: Science Fair is here! The projects submitted are all very interesting, and our students have represented themselves well in the interviews with members of our Education Committee (Mrs Tina Hiebert and Mr Ray Kaastra) and Mr Cameron. We will host a parent open house for science fair project viewing on Sat Mar 28, 2-4 pm (bring your son / daughter with you). The Ontario Christian Schools Science Fair will be on 9-10 April, selected students will be announced shortly. Those students will be able to “step up” their projects for even better results in a highly competitive environment. Well done!

Jr Basketball Tournament - Our district Jr Basketball Tournament will be held next Tuesday, March 31st at LDCSS in London. Start time is 8:45am. Players should bring lunch, good snacks, and some money for the concession, if desired. Semi finals play until 4pm, with finals after that.
