Wednesday, April 29th, 2015

Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

If your child is attending please RSVP admission@ldcss.ca.  We are looking forward to getting to know the class of 2019!

Christian Education “Sundays”.  This is run annually in participating churches with ICS students amongst the congregation, with the aim of celebrating Christian schooling. Is your church not on our list? Do you want to be? Please speak to your pastor, and to Mr Cameron!

We aim to join in Sunday worship services with student and staff representation.  The theme is: Praise God’s Name! (Psalm 8:1). The school display board, artwork and a laptop with pictures will be displayed in the foyer, ideally with a Promotions and staff member in attendance. We try to avoid making students miss their normal worship service, but some do wish to travel and celebrate with friends. Please use the form at the end of the Journal to let your homeroom teacher know who is able to attend.

Remember to bring due books back to school for our brief Library class tomorrow.  Memory Work: Wed. May 6 - Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant. Science: Why are birds so amazing? The design of a bird’s wing is especially aerodynamic. It is rounded on top and flat or slightly rounded on the bottom. As air moves over the wing, this shape makes the air flowing on top of the wing move faster than the air underneath it. Since faster-flowing air has lower pressure than slower-flowing air, this gives the bird’s wing “lift.”  Airplane wings were modeled after the wings of birds. Wow!
Bird Projects: All students have chosen their specific birds to research. Several students are working on Title Pages and are gathering information for their Sub-Titles. We are working in Google Docs to compile our information. Research work can be done at school and/or at home. Please continue to refer to the Project Content and Presentation Outlines that were sent home with your child last week.

Memory Work: For next Thursday, May 7: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Exhibition celebration for school and public viewing is planned for Wednesday, June 10.
Cycle of Hope (July 3-18):  How does one show thankfulness to God for His mercy and healing grace in a tangible way?  That was the motivating question that underpinned my decision to take two weeks this summer and ride 1600 kilometers (from Niagara Falls to Winnipeg) in support of a Christian charitable foundation, Habitat for Humanity, in its annual Cycle of Hope. Still suffering lingering physical and emotional effects from the cycling accident that nearly cost my left leg and my life, my older brother (whose wife is suffering from cancer) invited me to join him in a cause he has supported for many years. It was then I felt God’s leading to close this chapter of my life in a practical way.  I invite you to partner with me by supporting this adventure in prayer and with donations so I can fulfill my obligation of reaching $2500.
Thank you, Mr. TenBruggencate     http://www.habitat.mb.ca/events-cycleofhope.cfm
