From the Principal’s Desk:
Thank-you, parents, for your patience as we closed ICS yesterday for the funeral of ICS graduate and LDCSS student Jordan Hiemstra, 17. You may refer to the Clovermead Facebook site, or view the slide montage of Jordan’s life at: https://youtu.be/x7b4wPHt3YU. Christians from many different churches crowded into the Aylmer CRC, the Aylmer cemetery and the ICS gym as we mourned Jordan’s death. The service was honest, with the parents, my friends, Chris and Christy Hiemstra recounting the joy of Jordan’s life, the great pain of his death, acknowledging mental illness on physical and spiritual levels, and encouraging openness in seeking help. Chris powerfully related that our Heavenly Father calls out to each of us to live under his grace and love: choose to respond, and not numb your life to God’s calling. Through song, Scripture, preaching and story, the whole service pointed to the hope in Jesus that our school is built on: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1) and that “neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38, 29). Honest conversations have been started on many levels amongst our students; please carry them on at home, over dinner and at family devotions. Please hold the entire Hiemstra family in your thoughts and prayers. May God grant them comfort and strength, granting them all that they stand in need of as the reality of their loss begins to sink in.

Praying for our parents: Please join us as we pray for Nathan & Valerie Bokma and Jake & Lisa Boldt.
Praying for our staff: Please pray for our Grade 3/4 teacher Ms. Buma. We also covet your prayers for the Bierman family. For those of you not aware, Danielle is dealing with some serious health issues and would like to share honestly what is happening in her life and the life of their family. She has shared with us a link to her blog in hopes that it will be helpful to our community https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/iamnotalone
Don’t forget! This Friday is our first “early dismissal” PD day. After a sub lunch, our students will depart ICS at 2 pm (buses run roughly 1.5 hrs earlier). Your teachers will spend the remainder of the afternoon planning our class Integrated Study projects. Integrated Studies are part of what makes an “excellent elementary program with a focus on Christian character growth”. Integrated Studies combine several curriculum subjects, and may be whole class or multi-age groupings. This year, based on the second part of our theme (“Come follow me, and I will send you out…”), we will develop whole-class “send out” projects where ICS and Christ can impact our community in diverse ways.
