From the Principal’s Desk:
At a recent staff meeting, we each shared our hopes and plans for this term 2, through until March Break. I am excited by what we have planned! Our kindergarteners will be exploring student choice in language learning, starting a Daily 5 routine - not too young to be learning how to learn! Our primary classes are voyaging “north”, with a new learning unit on Nunavut. Our junior classes are focussing strongly on student voice in poem or speeches. Our intermediate grades are engaging in some unique learning opportunities, including a build and design Science Challenge with 6 other schools, and preparing to lead their K-6 school families in a multi-age study on simple machines called “Using the Forces” - wow! Growing strong learning routines in French, also structured around a Daily 5 approach. We are building instruments in our music classes, ranging from rhythm to the instruments of Bible fame. Alongside this, we are preparing for our Spring Drama, which involves our gr 7/8s as actors and our whole school in song. We look forward to sharing exciting, God-centred learning with you at our Easter Celebration of Learning! We cherish your home support and prayers for our teachers as we seek to show our students God’s call in every corner of creation!
Yours in Christian education, Keith Cameron, Principal and Chief Operating Officer

New Family Information Night: This Friday Jan 19th at 7:00pm. Do you know any families interested in ICS? Invite them, and let the office know! Young children can visit with our Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Penner for a JK and SK program. Grade 1-5 children can enjoy an art/craft activity. Grade 6-8 children are welcome to join their parents on the tour. Babysitting will be available for any preschool aged children.

Each week, during staff devotions we join in prayer for our parents and staff members. We invite you to do so as well.
Praying for our parents: Please pray for Darryll & Tracy Mantel as well as Robyn Allison and Dean Mantel.
Praying for our staff: Please pray for our Gr 5/6 teacher Ms. Farrow Jones.

REMINDERS:
T.R.I.P: Order is due on Jan 18th with pickup on Jan 25th.

WANTED! We will be looking for new TRIP coordinators for the 2018-19 school year. Janina and Annette have done a great job, and are now looking to train up their replacements. Coordinators are in charge of placing orders, making bank deposits, distributing gift card orders and ensuring stock is available. This is a lot of work, so this is a “paid volunteer” spot.  TRIP coordinators split 10% of TRIP profits, with 50% going to ICS Fundraising and 40% back to individual family tuition credits. The more you put in, the more you earn! Currently, coordinators earn just under $1000 tuition credit each. Interested? Send an application (email or letter) to Fundraising Committee via the office please!

WANTED! Does our Breakfast Program sound like a great idea to you? Want it to continue? We need an additional helper to ensure the future sustainability of this program. The job would require snack planning, shopping weekly and monthly tracking of finances. Our student breakfast team does the majority of daily prep and clean up! Please see Mrs Sue Guenther or Mr Keith Cameron...

Speakfest/Public Speaking: Parents and community members are invited to attend our Speakfest on Wed., Jan 31st, beginning with a brief chapel at 9am. Mark your calendars! Selected students will be able to move on to the Aylmer Legion Public Speaking on Saturday Feb 10th.

Attention all Interior Key Holders: Please see Keith or Tracey for the 2018 office alarm code, or return unneeded keys.

If you are reading this, you care about the everyday activities and functions within the school.  Thank you for that!  How about considering the next step: suggesting your name for consideration for the ICS Board of Directors.  Selected candidates will have a three year opportunity to be directly involved in the the future of Christian education in Aylmer and its surrounding area.  Board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month, from 8p-10p.  It is an honour that as a Board member, the ICS community believes in you and your skill set enough that you will ultimately make a positive impact on the organization!  Contact h.friesen@immanuelchristianschool.net for more information or to submit nominations.
Sincerely, your current Board members: Dean Mantel, Tina Hiebert, Suzie Guenther, Chantelle Bakker, Keith Cameron, Rose Fehr, Helen Friesen, Carrie Vis, Jacklyn Versnick.
