Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal's Desk::

Well, the final week before school lets out for the holidays is upon us!  There are several special events happening this week (as well as the weeks right after Christmas) which I'll highlight here:

Christmas Program - Mon at 1:30 pm and Weds at 7 pm.  Parents of JK children, please note the special times for these events. Classes will still run on Tue and Thu, but Mrs Groeneweg will have a calmer pace those days... This year’s program is called “Greetings From The Heart”.  Come for a time of spoken word, drama, song and instrumentals as we hear the Christmas story being told through the eyes of children.  May we celebrate the birth of our Saviour and enjoy a time of bringing Glory to God.  Refreshments will be served after the program.

Hot Dog lunch - Weds 19 Dec, orders due Dec. 17. Please see the order form.

School Carolling - we will be going out into our community from 1 - 3 pm on Thu 20 Dec.  Grades 5 -8 will carol along main street, and have hot chocolate at the Perc, while the primary wing will carol at Heritage Place and return to ICS.  We could use one or two parent volunteers for each classroom - please drop a note to your child's teacher if able!

School Skate - we will finish the week with a skate at the East Elgin Community Centre at 1:45 pm -2:45.  SK through grade 2 must wear helmets, all should wear gloves.  Students may dress in Christmas colours, if they like.  Skates may be rented at the rink for $2 if needed.  Parents are welcome to accompany their JK children to skating if they wish.

New Parent Information Evening - talk us up with friends and family!  Our annual registration event is the evening of Fri 18 Jan!

Parent Education Night - as parents, keep on top of what your children are doing. Mark your calendars for the evening of Wed Jan 23.   This year's focus is on some of the technology being used for literacy and communication.  Choose a workshop on Accelerating Parents (use of the Accelerated Reader program) or An Evening at the Docs (use of Google Docs).

We want our special events to be a celebration of the season, and of the gift of Christian education we have here at ICS.  May we, with Mary, treasure up the events of the Christmas holiday, and ponder the meaning of Christ's birth in our hearts.

in Christ,
//Keith Cameron//

Praying for our Families:  Last week Thursday we prayed for John & Anna Krahn and Andre & Janneke Kroondyk.

Meat & Baked Goods order pick up Thursday, Dec. 20 from 2:30-4.  Coolers, with names on them, are welcome.  Looking for a volunteer:  If anyone is interested in joining the meat and baked goods team please call Irene Versteegen-Buis 765-4766.  The time involved is 1 part day and 1 full day 4X a year.  It’s great for volunteer hours and its kinda fun.

T.R.I.P Order pick up is scheduled for tomorrow, Thurs., Dec. 13 in the afternoon. However, because of the busyness of the season, our supplier of gift cards has informed us that there could be a delay in receiving our order.  If this happens, we may not be able to send home orders on Thursday.  We will do our best to get orders filled as soon as the gift cards arrive.    –Grace & Theressa.

The January Cheese Order is attached.  Orders are due Dec.19 if you are sending it in with your child or you can call or e-mail Keli-Lyn by Jan. 2nd.  (519-765-1026, keli.lockyer@hotmail.com).  Delivery is January 9th, the first Wed. after we are back to school.

Volunteer OpportunitySince the gym is rented out this weekend, we need to set up our Christmas display for the Christmas Program on Monday morning in order to be ready for the afternoon matinee.  If you are able to help, please contact the school.

Derrick Drover Concert at Richmond United Church, (53895 Church St.), this Friday, Dec. 14 at 7:00 p.m.  Come sing together, and hear some of your favourites along with new inspirational music for the season.  A night for the whole family!

Our Community Service Projects:
Food Drive for the Corner Cupboard:  Our tree is the collection point for non-perishable food items for the Corner Cupboard to help needy families at Christmas time.  So pick up a few extra items with your weekly groceries and send them to school with your child(ren).  Let’s see how big an amount of groceries we can put under the tree!

Our Hat / Scarf / Mitten / Socks tree for the Optimist Club:  You may bring in new hats, mittens, scarfs or socks. The Optimist Club works together with the Corner Cupboard.  Both organizations appreciate our school being involved in these projects. Thank you!

Chess Club:  Sign up forms will be posted in the hall for all students in grades 3-8 who are interested in joining the chess club starting on Monday, January 7 during the lunch hours.  All interested students will take their lunch to the board room and play chess while they eat their lunch.  Our Grade by Grade Chess Tournament in London is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2013.  Thank you to Mr. Murray Rodenburg and Mr. Bram de Dreu for being our chess coaches.

Upcoming in January:  The Auxiliary is looking for willing volunteers to do “a good old fashioned kitchen cleaning”.  We are looking to do this after Christmas, in January, when all the busyness of the season is over.  Men are welcome to join the women (especially to move the stove and fridge).  Hopefully many willing workers can come out to get the job done quickly.  If you have a difficult time getting your required volunteers hours in this is a great opportunity.  A date will be set in early January we will keep you informed.

Dinner Extravaganza and Trivia Bonanza – Friday, Jan. 25th at ICS:  Roast Beef & Chicken Dinner with all the fixins (catered by Belmont Caterers)  Guest MC and trivia night, followed by a live auction (hosted by Jesse Vannoord) – an elegant evening of great food and entertainment!  Tickets are $40 per person or $300 per table of 8.  Are you (or your table) smarter than a fifth grader?
Looking for a great Christmas gift idea?  Or for a unique company holiday dinner idea?  Reserve your tickets by calling or emailing the school office.
Already have a donation for the auction?  Drop it off at the school – labelled with your name, phone # and value of the item(s).  (No used items please)  THANK YOU! – ICS Fundraising Committee

Silent night! Holy night!
All is calm, all is bright,
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child!
Holy Infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace!
Sleep in heavenly peace!

Douce nuit, sainte nuit !
Dans les cieux ! L'astre luit.
Le mystère annoncé s'accomplit
Cet enfant sur la paille endormi,
C'est l'amour infini !
C'est l'amour infini !

Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht!
Gottes Sohn, o wie lacht
Liebe aus deinem göttlichen Mund,
Da uns schlägt die rettende Stund.
Jesus in deiner Geburt!
Jesus in deiner Geburt!

Stille nacht, Heilige nacht,
Heil en vree wordt gebracht.
Aan een wereld, verloren in schuld,
God's belofte wordt heerlijk vervuld.
Amen, Gode zij d'eer,
Amen, Gode zij d'eer.
