From the Principal’s Desk:
Time flies towards the end of the school year! We aim to keep on learning right up until the last day (really, God has made us to learn, and not just during the school day either!). We do change up the pace in June, with the district Track and Field event and with class field trips, for example. There are some impacts to all parents from those days, please see the separate announcements below. We look forward to finishing this year strong, having learned more of what it is to “Come follow Jesus” in all areas of our lives!
In Christian education, Keith Cameron, Principal and Chief Operating Officer
Praying for our parents: Please join us as we pray for Nathan & Valerie Bokma and Jake & Lisa Boldt.
Praying for our staff: Please pray for our Grade 1 teacher teacher Ms. Pieters.

REMINDERS:
G.I.F.T hours: How are your hours coming along? ICS is dependant on parent involvement; not only is it essential to operate the school, it also builds Christian community among students, parents, staff and supporters. You can count hours up until the end of June, but we need to have the sheets handed in by May 31st in order to get the tuition invoices out. Families not completing GIFTS hours should expect that they would share financially in the support of ICS by paying the set premium fee (currently $200).
Tuition Reduction Incentive Plan (T.R.I.P): Next order will be sent out on May 31st. The gifts cards we have instock will be available throughout the summer from Annette Dykxhoorn (519)860-6332, Janina Dykxhoorn (519)709-6620, Clovermead or Roszell’s, however we will not be placing our monthly orders.  Please purchase any cards needed for the summer in June’s monthly order form. Clovermead Adventure Farm passes are available through Annette Dykxhoorn, Janina Dykxhoorn, or from Roszell’s.  Save the tax and help the school, we get 100% profit from the sale of the passes.
Meat & Baked Goods: Due tomorrow May 25th with pickup on June 16th from 2:30-4pm.

ICS Spirit Wear: check out the possibilities on:  www.immanuelchristianschool.wikispaces.com/ICS+Spirit+Wear.
From the Principal’s Desk:
Track and field is a hot topic when you have to reschedule! We had calendar issues earlier, and weather issues this week - thank-you for your graciousness as a community. With challenges, frustrations, wins and losses, determination and training, sport can be used as an analogy of the Christian life. An oft-quoted verse is 2 Corinthians 9:24 - “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” In chapel this morning we watched the inspirational video of Heather Dorniden, a college runner in 2008, as she fell during a critical race. Watch the video on YouTube to get the full effect: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx5VveUhf6c. She is quoted after the race as declaring, “I feel like the Lord just filled me up and gave me the opportunity to show what amazing things can happen through Him.”
God works amazing things through all of us, and those things are not always what may be seen to be as great as this race, but goodness and grace in everyday events are no less amazing. Along those lines, I want to acknowledge two families who graciously topped up our long jump pits with sand on their own initiative, another family who in a discussion on kitchen improvements, volunteered to donate the needed countertop upgrade! There are other events like these on a frequent basis - it is a blessing to be in the ICS community as God works through each of us!
In Christian education, Keith Cameron, Principal and Chief Operating Officer
Praying for our parents: Please join us as we pray for Dave and Angie Bergen & Jake and Lydia Bergen.
Let us also remember the Lockyer family in our prayers. Keli lyn would like to ask for prayers and peace for their Grandfather who is in a nursing home and is not doing well.

Membership Meeting Recap - Thank you for attending last week's Spring Membership Meeting!  We picked up some fresh perspective from Justin Cook from OACS and took care of school business, including approval of the budget for the upcoming 2017/18 school year. Membership renewal for 2017/18 can be done now at the school office. If you have any questions regarding Membership, Membership Meetings and the process of becoming more involved in YOUR school, please email j.versnick@immanuelchristianschool.net.

We are looking for:
  • An occasional handyman. We maintain a list of minor building faults, most of which require a bit of time, a few tools and a bit of know-how. Fixing small things promptly can save us big repairs later on. Do you know someone (maybe partially retired) able to commit 1-2 hours weekly at ICS? Please let Mr Cameron know!
  • A source of clean topsoil. Our soccer goals are getting hollowed out and need some topsoil and grass seed. Again, if you can deliver some topsoil, we can save on playground maintenance!
  • Minor painting volunteers over the summer.  Can you help with minor touch-ups over the summer months? Doorways, doors, playground lines can all be touched up…. Waiting longer means a much bigger job!

Yearbook Advertising: You still have a chance to advertise your business in our yearbook, please contact the office. Ad costs: Business Card $40, 1/4 page $60, 1/2 page $100, Full page $160 and inside cover is $300.

Transportation Update - as briefed at the membership meeting, we did not have enough families who were able to jump off the bus for next year to offer a tuition rebate. We are looking at options for a small bus replacement this summer and we appreciate the good work done to date on scheduling - thank-you Transport Committee!

IMG_0527.JPGThe Promotions committee would like to extend a huge thank you to all the families that come out on Saturday for the 150th parade and helped to fill our Birthday Bus! It was a great time spent with our school families while representing ICS with our presences in Aylmer.  A very special thank you goes out to Mrs. Tesselaar for escorting the Birthday Bus along the parade route. It was truly a great time.

Exciting Surprise: First thing Tuesday morning as the students were coming in I heard Roenan excitedly say, “Ms. Pieters the butterfly hatched!” Hollis had brought this chrysalis to school in September. The students all gathered around to watch how the tiny butterfly’s wings started to grow as it pumped the blood into its wings. It was a beautiful miracle the Lord created. Now we are eagerly watching Elaina’s chrysalis. We’re hoping her chrysalis will soon reveal a beautiful swallowtail butterfly also.
