Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

Friday, January 25th at ICS

From the Principal's Desk::

Welcome back!  As a school, we recognized the end of the Christmas season, reflecting on Epiphany (the coming of the wise men) at chapel this morning.  As a school, we are trying to weave our chapels into the rhythm of the church calendar.  We are fixed in a school year of Christmas Break, March Break and Summer Holidays, but we are also seeing that we fit into another rhythm of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter celebrating and remembering who Jesus is.  I'm convinced that, over time, the routines of our school can speak powerfully to what is important in life.

I've also been reflecting on Hebrews 12:1-2, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith."  In this school, we have been preceded by those who committed much to establish and build this institution.  The race is continued by us, and our Board vision sees "the necessity of a Christian, innovative and exceptional educational program for our children."  We are called both to run with perseverance, and to encourage one another.  Amanda and I would like to thank you for the support we felt from you over the Christmas period, expressed in gifts and words.  I want to encourage you to continue to be actively involved in your children's education.  There are also many opportunities to be involved in the building too, ranging from electives, our dinner and auction, our parent education night, sports teams, reading buddies, yard duty help on Thursday mornings - come on out!

Lastly, I should note that I've been accepted for the Christian Schools International Principal's Development Institute from 22-26 January in Miami (yes, it is Miami in January, but CSI warns me that they're serious and expect us to work long hours!).  CSI picks up the seminar, hotel and food costs, and flights from Detroit are very inexpensive.  I will update you on my return, and expect to benefit from an intense, structured time of discussion with other Christian principals from across North America.

in Christ,
Keith Cameron, Principal

Praying for our Families:  Thursday before the holidays we prayed for Darryll & Tracy Mantel, Robyn Allison and Dean Mantel.
Praying for our Staff:  This week we will pray for Mrs. Robinson and continued healing for Mr. TenBruggencate.

Thank you everyone!  All the staff, office personnel, and bus drivers would like to thank everyone for their best wishes, treats, and gifts received throughout the Christmas season.  We truly appreciate all the kind gestures of thoughtfulness and goodwill.

New Cell Phone Number for Mr. Walters:  Last Journal we gave the cell no. for our new bus driver.  Please ignore that number and use this correct one: 519-765-0645.

Kitchen Cleaning is happening this Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9 till noon.  We are hoping for lots of women and men (to help move the stoves and fridges), to get the job done quickly.  A great opportunity to get in some required volunteers hours!

T.R.I.P. Order for January is attached.  Orders are due Thursday, Jan. 17th.  Pick up Thursday, Jan. 24th in the p.m.

Transportation:  Monday, Jan. 21st, Wednesday, Jan. 23rd, Monday, Jan. 28th and Tuesday, Jan. 29th LDCSS has exam study days and turn around days.  Mrs. Tesselaar’s bus will leave 20 minutes later in the morning.

Meat & Baked Goods: Looking for a volunteer:  If anyone is interested in joining the meat and baked goods team please call Irene Versteegen-Buis 765-4766.  The time involved is 1 part day and 1 full day 4X a year. It’s great for volunteer hours.
                Meat and Baked Goods raised $470.65.  Thank you to everyone who participated in the fundraiser. Katherine & Irene

Handyman Help Needed: Our school could use the services of an additional (ideally retired) volunteer handyman who would complete small repairs on a weekly basis. This would be an ideal link between minor replacements which are done by our janitor, and more major projects which are completed by our maintenance committee. The personal contact with our staff and students could also be very enjoyable. If interested and able, please contact the Principal.

Electives start next Friday!   We thank the following leaders who are willing to share their time and talents with our students in their various fields of interest.

Public Speaking 2013The season is upon us!  The Legion is holding their public speaking contest on Sat., February 2nd.  We will hold the ICS Speakfest on Jan. 30.  That means a concentrated period of learning, creating and memorizing for our grade 1’s through grade 8’s.  To help in this, the memory work until Jan. 30 will be your child's story, poem or speech.  Please support your children in encouraging and listening as they prepare.  It is our hope that events such as this help our children to be able to confidently, "Declare your name to the people" (Psalm 22:22).
