Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal’s Desk:

There are many interesting announcements in this last pre-Easter Journal! I’ll not add more, and I’ll simply encourage you to read carefully! Blessings as we celebrate the most important holiday in the Christian calendar. On Sunday morning, may we declare joyfully, “He is risen indeed!”
in Christian education, Keith Cameron, Principal

Praying for our families: Thursday we prayed for Jason & Sheri Weesjes and Len & Jane Weverink..
Praying for our staff:  This week let’s pray for Mrs. Robinson. Keep Marie Smit in your prayers as well.
Praying for our community: Remember in prayer Doreen, the wife of OACS Advancement Director Ray Hendriks, who has struggled with health issues for some time and is now seriously ill.  Ray has been very active leading ICS through strategic planning measures in recent years.
Reminders:  T.R.I.P. Orders may be picked up tomorrow, Thursday, April.17.

YOU ARE INVITED…..To the Fish Tales Play - Tonight!!!!  at 7:00 p.m.  “Fish Tales aren’t fishy when they come from God’s Word.”

One day left! “Daffodil Days”. Amidst fundraising for our school, we also feel called to look outwards. Our Hat and Gum Day supports wider Christian curriculum. We support a Compassion Child annually. As spring enters in, and with many members of our community facing or having faced cancer, we’d like to support the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days during the week prior to Easter (14-17 Apr). All funds raised will fund research and provide support to local cancer patients. We’d ask students to bring in small amounts ($2 to $5), perhaps even a small share of an allowance. For every donation of any size, we’ll post a daffodil sticker on a display on the Student Centre by the office.

PAUSE FOR PLAY - TURN OFF THE SCREENS WEEK - April 27 - May 3, 2014.
Did you know…….   You need to be active for a minimum of 60 minutes every day?
You need to bend and stretch every day?
You need to run, jump, skip or walk many times a day?
Experts recommend that children and youth should view screens no more than 2 hours per day.  On average, Canadian children and youth spend 4 - 6 hours a day viewing screens.  That is a lot of time sitting down and being inactive!!!  Pause to Play starts on April 27th.  For 7 days, students will record the time they spend viewing screens along with the time they spend on physical activities.  The goal is to increase your physical activity to 60 minutes a day.  Regular physical activity helps to make you stronger, feel good, and have more energy.  You will find a Log Sheet and a Ticket Order form attached to the Journal this week.  TICKET ORDERS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE OFFICE NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, APRIL 22ND.  PLEASE REMEMBER THAT TICKETS WILL BE ALLOCATED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS.

Update: Admin Assistant: We completed interviews with three outstanding candidates on Tuesday. All three were well-prepared, and possessed strong admin and interpersonal skills. Our chosen candidate has training in office administration, and is excited to re-meet our school community, to deal with children, and to grow spritually during her term with us. Please welcome ICS alumni Mrs Tracey (Kers) Morren to the position starting on Apr 22! She will cover for Mrs Smit until 30 Sep. She will work Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri, while Leinie will cover Thu as a volunteer commitment. Please drop in to greet or meet Tracey!

The I.C.S. Spring Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 30 at 8:00 in the gym.  Agendas are attached to this Journal.  Come out and get informed as to what is happening with your school, vote for new board members, and socialize with other parents. For members without children here, your agenda will either be mailed or placed in your church mailbox. Volunteer hours: Did you know that when you attend a membership meeting it counts for 2 hours towards your volunteer time?

Battle of the Books - We had a great day of competition last Wednesday. Our Senior players showed wonderful team spirit and book knowledge and placed FIRST in their division!  Our Junior team of 3 (described as "small but mighty" by one of the other coaches) did an incredible job and placed a very respectable THIRD.  Well done everyone!  You made us proud!  A special THANK YOU to Mrs. Sherry DeKraker for preparing questions for some of the books and being a driver and Senior chaperone.  We really appreciated your involvement.  Any adult interested in preparing questions for next year should contact Mrs. Robinson - we should have the new list mid-summer.
TEAM MEMBERS - don't forget to return your red shirt to the library.

Care Group: The ICS Auxiliary would like to initiate a Care Group within our ICS supporting community to occasionally make a meal for those of our families who are temporarily experiencing a trying time.  If there are enough volunteers, your services may only be required once or twice per year.  If you would like to use your gifts in this area or for more info, please contact Bettina Vandersleen @226-373-0584 or bett@amtelecom.net.

Summer Smash Volleyball Camp - London District Christian Secondary School is planning to have the 4th annual Summer Smash Volleyball Camp this year on August 18-22.  Registration forms can be found on the LDCSS.ca website and will cost $160 per person.  Registration is limited to 30 individuals so register early.   Please email Steven Wassing at swassing@ldcss.ca if you have any questions.

FREE WILL CLINIC- FAITHFUL STEWARDS
ICS and Christian Stewardship Services will be holding a free Will clinic at ICS on April 24th at 8 pm and one of the topics we will discuss is how the Charity Child can fit into an estate plan.
"But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this?  Everything comes from you, and we have given what comes from your hand." (David, 1 Chron. 29:14)
The word 'charity' according to the Bible concordance I use, is derived from the word 'love' and probably says it all.  Throughout our lives we teach our children to keep a place in their heart for the Lord, to remember Him in our daily studies, work, and leisure.  How appropriate then, in our last will and testament to reserve a place for 'A child Called Charity': a share for the charities you support or would like to support.
Some things to consider when you include 'A Child Called Charity' in your Will:
1.  Are your own adult children economically self-sufficient?
2.  Have you assisted your children in obtaining higher education?
3.  Have you assisted your children in purchasing their own home or a business?
If the answer is "yes" the 'Child Called Charity' concept would work very well.  It is a fair, biblically justified way of dealing with your estate.
Take a moment to talk to or contact Grace Miedema at grace.miedema@gmail.com to reserve your seat.

Junior Basketball: Our tournament is on Tue Apr 22! Wow, already! The tournament is at London District Christian Secondary School. Our boys’ and girls’ first game is at 10am, with the latest possible finish at 6pm. Please have your child at LDCSS by 9:40am. If you can offer to drive, or need a ride, please call Mr Cameron (boys) or Ms Jones (girls). See you there!
