From the Principal’s Desk:
I have had a number of people ask if I am looking forward to the end of school. I want to be careful on how I respond, as I want to communicate a couple of messages with that question. Of course, a new pace over the summer is welcome, time to think, to plan, to relax on vacation. My family is looking forward to a camping vacation as we drive northwards… ideally seeing the northern beauty along the Dempster Highway and towards Inuvik, Northwest Territories, God willing! At the same time, learning is exciting, and I’m not after “being done” with our school year! We will start our summer on a note of looking forward and discerning God’s leading as we hold our annual staff retreat on June 29th at the Old Schoolhouse in Springwater. As teachers, it is a blessing to be able to work and teach in a supportive Christian environment, to be a part of our students’ (and your families’) lives as we help build God’s kingdom here on this earth.
Our forthcoming Awards Chapel and Graduation is a completion, but even more a celebration of God’s work through Immanuel, through his servants and children here! Come and join us next Wednesday! As our theme reminds us, it is our blessing and calling to hear Jesus’ call to “Follow me!.”
In Christian education, Keith Cameron, Principal and Chief Operating Officer
Praying for our parents: Please join us as we pray for Ms Katrina Farrow Jones and Frank & Rose Fehr.
Praying for our staff: Please pray for our Resource & French teacher Ms. Smeets
Praying for families considering ICS: We need two more families to make our 2017/2018 budget. We are still looking for more JK students, and we have room in other grades too. Foundation bursary is possible. Who is God leading to Immanuel?

2017/2018 Custodial Assistant Sought! Our current assistant, Mrs Justina Bergen, is finding that she’s getting too busy to be a reliable help for our custodian, Mrs Angie Bergen, and she’s looking to pass that job on. The job involves helping to clean the Green Wing on weekdays (about an hour daily after school) and 4-5 hours on Fridays or Saturdays for a total of 7-10 hours weekly. Summer hours are flexible, focussed in July on the major school cleaning. Applicants need to be 16 or over, able to work independently and in a small team, with a current police check. Resumes or expressions of interest should be forwarded to Mr Cameron by Friday Jun 16.

Diploma, Graduation, ContractGRADUATION:  It is tradition at ICS that the Grade 7 parents help the Auxiliary to prepare, serve and clean up the graduation dinner for the Grade 8's, their parents and the staff, as well as the strawberry social.  Both parents (or other adult members representing your family) are expected to help.  Please email the school office to sign up for a time slot that works for you or visit our online signup at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0948a9a72fabf49-volunteer

FROM THE CLASSROOMS…

LIBRARY NEWS: (n.robinson@immanuelchristianschool.net) We are gradually working through all the library shelves to check for missing books and making sure everything is in order (i.e. Inventory). I can still use help Thursday or Friday this week. Most books have been returned. Please check at home, and send everything back, even if it is not on your child’s list. We are finding that some books have left the library without being signed out! If there are still books/materials outstanding, parents will be updated by regular emails.
Students may sign out up to 10 books from our library for Summer Sign-out. A note of permission is needed if a child wants to participate by checking out books on June 22.
SRC - Most public libraries run Summer Reading Clubs, with lots of fun activities, prizes and book selections. Connect with your local branch to help keep your reading skills sharp over the summer!

SK-4 Field Trip: Friday, June 16 is the African Lion Safari Field Trip for SK-Gr.4 students.
  • All students are asked to wear their gym shirt or a red shirt. Sunscreen and a hat is a great idea too!
  • We recommend wearing good supportive footwear.
  • Please pack a healthy lunch, snack and water.
  • Take along some fun quiet activities for the bus ride.
  • At the end of the day, we will be stopping at the Souvenir Shop. Students may purchase a small souvenir (ruler, postcard, pencil, treat, etc.)  to remember their adventure. We recommend bringing no more than $7.

 Whole School Memory Work:

“I Will Follow” by Chris Tomlin

Where you go, I'll go
Where you stay, I'll stay
When you move, I'll move
I will follow
All your ways are good
All your ways are sure
I will trust in you alone
Higher than my sight
High above my life
I will trust in you alone
Where you go, I'll go
Where you stay, I'll stay
When you move, I'll move
I will follow you
Who you love, I'll love
How you serve I'll serve
If this life I lose, I will follow you
I will follow you
Light unto the world
Light unto my life
I will live for you alone
You're the one I seek
Knowing I will find
All I need in you alone, in you alone
In you there's life everlasting
In you there's freedom for my soul
In you there's joy, unending joy
And I will follow
