Hat and Gum Day
From the
Principal's Desk::
We've
certainly had a funny weather week! On behalf of the staff and transport
committee, we appreciate your patience and help with our snow day cancellation
on Friday, and the snow/rain bus cancellation on Monday morning. We will
aim to extend electives by one more week to make up for the missed day on Friday.
Our bus cancellation calls are generally made just after 6 am (we rely on
the public system's weather decisions on www.busmonitor.ca),
in consultation with me, and we aim to get the phone chain going very shortly
thereafter. We will also post weather cancellations on our Twitter feed,
located on our homepage. As a school, we are indeed a small community,
and everyone plays a part in our transportation system - thank-you!
Yours
in Christ,
Keith
Cameron, Principal
Praying for our Families: Last week we prayed for Alec and Elaine
Saarloos & Graham and Janet Saarloos.
Praying for our Staff: This week we will pray for Mrs. Drop and continued
healing for Mr. TenBruggencate.
Please
remember in prayer the Coto family.
Nain’s mother in Honduras
has suffered a stroke at the age of 88.
Nain will be making an emergency trip to Honduras to see is mother. We pray for travelling mercies and for God’s
comfort and strength as they face the unknown.
Reminders: T.R.I.P.
Orders will be available for pick up Thursday, Feb. 21 in the p.m.
Transportation: Friday, Feb. 15 LDCSS
has a PD day. Mrs. Tesselaar’s bus will
leave 20 minutes later in the a.m. Transportation for all High School Students: Because I.C.S.
has a PD Report Card Preparation day on Tuesday, Feb. 19th, the
school will be closed to students so the bussing for L.D.C.S.S. is as
follows: Mrs. Rita Tesselaar’s bus
will leave her home at 7:45 a.m. (Students catching the bus at her house
should be there by 7:40.) She will stop
at Carter Road at
7:50 then to the school, leave I.C.S. at 8:00, stop at Hiemstra’s at 8:10, and
stop in Lyons
at the Fire Hall at 8:15, stop at Hwy 74 and Wilson Rd. at 8:20 then on to
L.D.C.S.S. Return trip done in reverse.
Electives: Since last Friday was a
snow day we will extend our program for an additional week. Feb. 22 will be the final elective.

CTBS score, or has a special concern to discuss. New this year, if you wish, students from
grades 3-8 may also attend the conference with you. You will notice a self reflection form
included with this term’s report cards which may be used during these
conferences.
Teachers
will request a conference for anyone achieving below the ‘C’ level, so everyone
is asked to check the schedule when it is sent home with the February 27th
Journal. Conference request forms are

of the Journal.

Occasional Building Attendant. Position involves
opening and closing the gym for rentals, with janitorial services during and
after the rental, depending on the

The ideal applicant ideally
lives locally, and is able to attend
ICS on an occasional basis depending on rentals. The
successful candidate will work with the
janitor, and for the Principal.
Please contact the Principal for more information. Applications may
be sent to the office by Feb 27.
Volunteer Handyman. This is an ideal
position for a retired gentleman who has a desire to serve with his hands on a
weekly or
bi-weekly basis in the school for a few
hours during business hours. We have many small items needing repair,
which often wait
until they become bigger before getting
done - we'd like to move to a more proactive system, taking pride in our school
building
and keeping it in a high standard of
repair.
Tech Team. Are you interested
in learning how we keep our computers running? Our tech team is seeking
one interested

day is being held Fri Mar 1 (a bit earlier than other years) in the
morning. This is both a fun activity for our students, as well as a
fundraiser for the Canadian Christian Education Foundation's (http://www.canadianchristianeducation.org/)
"Give a Little, get a Lot " campaign.
The Canadian Christian Education Foundation is a national foundation
working to meet the needs of our Christian School Teachers and students as they
enter the 21st century. Students will be able to purchase hat and gum
licences, as well as buy tickets for face and hair painting as well as a hoops
competition. Our grade 8s will sell tickets and help with event running.
We need some parents to come out and help with face painting, nail
painting, hair painting, basketball toss...and other things. If you
could volunteer please email Emily Schuurman (schuur7@execulink.com) or
Georgie Rodenburg
(rburg@eastlink.ca).
ICS
is hosting a Touch A Truck event June 1st
on the school property. We are also combining this event with an open
house so that people in the community get to know us a little bit better.
We would like a few extra people on the committee to help out with planning this
community event. If interested please email dmantel@eastlink.ca. We are meeting
once a month for a few hours to plan the event and you would be asked to help
out the day of the event (10a.m-3p.m)
