Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal's Desk::

As a school community, we have recently encountered difficulty with an aggressive Canada Revenue Agency audit of the Christian Education Assistance Fund (CEAF).  We have sent letters home explaining the situation as we understand it, and our Board met in an emergency session to discuss how we wished to process our 2012 books and charitable receipts in light of this review.  CEAF was established about 30 years ago with the intent to operate within our tax laws, while seeking to provide increased support to Christian schools and parents faced with a high, private, cost of education.  They have passed audits in the past.  However, until this matter is resolved, we are prudently calculating our 2012 ICS charitable receipts without considering the CEAF grants.  The matter looks like it will head to the courts.  Please pray that a just legal interpretation of the law will be obtained.

We have received notice from the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools that they intend to support parents who have already received a CRA notice of intent to re-assess tax years 2009 and 2010.  The OACS is working out its plan for developing sound legal advice, and promise to have a second memo for us by Friday, February 8 in which specific defence strategies will be unveiled.  Our first request is that you remain calm and hold off with any response to CRA regarding your letter.  Our second request is that you consider OACS’ offer to work on your behalf and, when we ask for a formal endorsement, that you will respond quickly.  Please also have patience during this uncomfortable period where we wait for full details to unfold.  We have already sent the latest OACS letter home via email, and we will send out additional information as soon as it is available.

Yours in Christ,
Keith Cameron, Principal

Praying for our Staff:  This week we will pray for Ms. Buma and continued healing for Mr. TenBruggencate.

Update on Mr. T:
Evert continues to recover well, with continuing extensive physio.  He is feeling upbeat and hopeful about regaining full mobility!  His ACL ligament remains unattached, and he is also seeking a medical opinion about reattaching that before returning to work.  In that eventuality, he may still be off work for a number of weeks / months to come.  Ms Jones continues to do a great job with the gr 7/8s - please pray for her sustained efforts, as well as Mr T's full healing.

Our condolences go out to Darryl and Tracy Mantel and the children Correy, Kaylynn and Connor is the passing
away of Tracy’s Dad, Mr. Hank VanLeerzem from Strathroy.  He passed away in Florida while vacationing.  May

Hat and Gum day is being held Fri Mar 1 (a bit earlier than other years) in the morning.  This is both a fun activity for our students, as well as a fundraiser for the Canadian Christian Education Foundation's (http://www.canadianchristianeducation.org/) "Give a Little, get a Lot" campaign.  The Canadian Christian Education Foundation is a national foundation working to meet the needs of our Christian School Teachers and students as they enter the 21st century.  Students will be able to purchase hat and gum licences, as well as buy tickets for face and hair painting as well as a hoops competition.  Our grade 8s will sell tickets and help with event running.  We need some parents to come out and help with face painting, nail painting, hair painting, basketball toss...and other things.  If you could volunteer please email Emily Schuurman (schuur7@execulink.com) or Georgie Rodenburg                       (rburg@eastlink.ca).

“May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 115:15

Bible: The students have just finished a study on the Lord's Prayer. They learned that the purpose of prayer was to acknowledge God as Lord and to open ourselves to his mercy. Jesus' prayer summarized several of his teachings about the kingdom of God: God's honour and kingdom come first and our daily needs second, and only those who forgive can approach God for forgiveness.
Memory Work: for Wednesday, February 13, The Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13)
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
For your is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

Tech: As a class, we continue to learn valuable lessons in internet safety.  We covered our "photo" internet safety stamp last week.  At school we run an internet filter, and set our search engine filters to "strict".  Despite filters, we are aware that there is a risk that inappropriate images may still be found.  In that case, we teach your children to be forthright, not to hide the issue, and to bring it to the attention of a parent or teacher.  We recommend that you discuss similar options at home, as well as parental assistance with internet searches, particularly image searches.
