Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal's Desk:

I wanted to take this space to paint what the next school year is looking like. School events continue to move smoothly, as does planning for next year in terms of calendar and schedule. For the Fall, we are trying to integrate band into the school day, create an “integrated studies” block, and combine 7/8 for French and math, creating prep periods for all teachers.  Our teaching will aim for more differentiated learning, deliberate use of tech tools, projects, and integration across subjects.  However, our future enrollment continues to be a concern. Our Fall enrollment is forecast to be 79. We have 9 children enrolled in JK and 8 in SK, which are good numbers. The catch is, we have no new families in that mix! That was forecast in our 2013-2014 budget, but we would hope to reduce that deficit if possible... Our 2013-2014 budget gives us time to try to increase our enrollment while preserving our educational program and organizational structure - we do believe that there are Christian families in our area who we are not yet seeing...

I have toured a considerable number of families and pastors through the school, but that has not yet resulted in registrations. Promotions committee has likewise been busy with our information night, new posters and the upcoming "Touch a Truck" event, among others. We would also want to enable all parents, grandparents and members to be advocates for the school. The most convincing means of advertising is word of mouth! Prospective parents need to be convinced on the necessity of Christian education, and the value of the quality of the Christian education ICS has to offer. Our website is a good starting place to refer prospective parents to.  Our final slide on our home page asks, "Why ICS?" We answer:
- parent partnership
- deep sense of community
- open to all who desire a Christian education
- Christian perspective woven throughout
- certified teachers
- aim to excel in educational practice

Prayerfully, "always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have" (1 Peter 3:15), and share the good news of ICS!

in Christian instruction,
Keith Cameron, Principal

I.C.S. is hosting a Touch A Truck Event on June 1st from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  What is Touch A Truck?  It's an opportunity for young and old to come close and personal with these big trucks we see on the roads every day.  They will have the opportunity to sit in or look at these large vehicles such as transport trucks, farm equipment, emergency vehicles and hopefully even a helicopter!  We are making this a community event so spread the word.  ICS will also have an open house on this date and give our community families a chance to see what our school has to offer.  There will be a BBQ food for purchase along with cotton candy and the ICS chip wagon with its famous fries!  Cost is only $5 per child and 18+FREE.

We are need of many volunteers to help run this event, from parking attendants, cleanup crews etc….  Please contact Dean Mantel by email dmantel@eastlink.ca or by phone 519-282-3115 if you would like to help.

Redeemer University Elementary Science Fair: Our school was well represented at the Ontario Christian Schools Science fair by 4 senior students on Friday May 17. Congratulations to Sebastian Noorland (3rd place for grass fertilization), Jordan Hiemstra (2nd place for natural bacterial control), Matthew Cameron (2nd place for clear ice) and Megan Ypma (2nd place for water potability)! There were projects as diverse as mold, chilling Coke, making batteries, flouride, earthworms, exercise, Where's Waldo?, dreams, plastic, tree-climbing bikes, magnets and plants, lightening, etc - all the students had fun delving into a particular aspect of God's creation.  Some statistics: 165 projects from 46 Christian schools - 51 (31%) of the projects received first place standing ribbons, 54 (33%) of the projects received second-place standing ribbons.  Over 70 judges participated in the Fair.
A list (and pictures) of all the projects that received awards can be found at http://cs.redeemer.ca/scifair/scifair2013/index.html
