Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal’s Desk:
Wow, it’s May already! There’s lots on at school, we are far from “winding down”! Our Gifts of Healing multi-age integrated study is running on Fridays, we have Track and Field Day coming up on Wed May 21 (after some date changing due to track availability), and we have our classes preparing for field trips and our senior Fair Glen camping trip at the end of May.

This is Christian Education week, and there has been much enthusiasm for thriving as a centre of Christian learning! We have joined both Grace Community Church and Aylmer CRC in worship, with Tillsonburg CRC this Sunday. Today was our Open House (parents and grandparents who missed it should feel free to drop in anytime and see what’s up in school)! Our school verse this year calls us to be rooted in Christ Jesus (Col 2:6,7). This week, we are literally putting down native tree roots with a TD Friends of the Environment grant in our playground. We are also called to be rooted in behaviour and habits which honour our Lord. We continue to emphasize those aspects of character as foundational to who we are as a school. As staff we recently reviewed new report cards which allow us to highlight character and growth in a much clearer way. We encourage our students to become Alongside Standers rather than Bystanders in their interactions with each other. As we develop godly character, we create the conditions for thriving Christian learning! That is exciting!

Keith Cameron, Principal

ICS Track and Field is on Wed May 21 (raindate May 26). Parents, if you are able to take time to volunteer, your participation is essential to the running of many simultaneous events, and is a great chance to be involved with your child's class!  Sign up form at the end of the Journal (or click / type this link: http://goo.gl/3ybB6N ). We will be contacting all families on Friday to see how you can help!

Pizza Lunch: The Auxiliary will also be looking for volunteers for their track and field lunch crew. It’s a wonderful way to increase your volunteer hours. Note: All our track and field volunteers will get free lunch tickets (1 pizza, 1 drink, and 1 freezie).  Volunteers may purchase extra items also.  As soon as we have our volunteer list finalized it will be sent home with your child.Thank you

Volunteer Opportunity - We are looking for someone to take care of tabulating our grocery tape receipts and bringing them in for a refund.  This helps with your volunteer hours commitment. Please contact the office.

London District Christian Secondary School- Student Connections Night this Friday! If your family has a child registered for (or still considering) Grade 9 at LDCSS this September, your child is invited to attend the 6th annual Student Connections Night May 9-10. New students are invited from 5 p.m. Friday - 9 a.m. Saturday morning for food, games, and icebreaker actives with the goal of building new friendships. If your child is attending please RSVP admissions@ldcss.ca.  We are looking forward to getting to know the class of 2018!

Badminton: The ICS badminton team represented us well at last Saturday's tournament at LDCSS! Most of our players played right until the tournament end, placing high on the “consolation” side of the playoffs. Thank-you to Mr T for coaching!

Ongoing! Gifts of Healing Multi-Age Study: Over 4 Friday afternoons in May, we’re looking at the healing of the man born blind in John 9, and at a modern-day medical healer. Each “student family” group will look at a different person - Mother Teresa, Florence Nightingale, Frederick Banting, Clara Barton, Louis Pasteur, or Jonas Salk. What will tie us together is the common story of Jesus’ healing of the blind man, and 4 “essential questions”:
1. Why is there illness in our world? What is wrong?
2. How are we called to work in the world today? (This week’s question)
3. How should we respond to illness or wrong in our world?
4. Who really saw in this story? How do we really see?
What did your son / daughter learn? Make this a dinner-table conversation on Friday night!

Transportation:Bus Schedule for September 2015
ICS Transportation Committee is already preparing for the 2014-2015 school year. Bus routes are changed every year to accommodate new and graduating students. Sometimes the changes are minor and other times routes can be changed significantly. If you are moving or have any special needs, please advise Jeff Vannoord by e-mail – jtvannoord@amtelecom.net by May 15, 2014. If you currently have a mixed pickup or drop off schedule for your children we need to know if this will still be required as well for the upcoming school year. If you no longer require bus transportation as well please let us know. If your high school children require busing please advise us.

Scooters -If your child is bringing their scooter on the bus it must be folded. If you are unable to fold the scooter it cannot be brought on the bus for safety reasons.
