Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

SMALL IMAGE (PNG)Public DomainA question is often an opportunity to think again about what we do and why. Children’s questions are valuable in causing us as adults and teachers to explain the “why.” However, the question “why” this time came from the editor of The Aylmer News (http://www.theaylmernews.com/). “Why does ICS go to the cenotaph in town on Remembrance Day?”
I had to stop and think a minute. We have done this since well before my time as principal. It has to do with connecting our school with our wider community and country. We train up our children to acknowledge God and his ways, not just in the private confines of life, but in all of life. The classic phrase asserts that “there is not a single square inch” of life where God does not call us to be faithful to him. Kirk Barons, the editor, printed my response: “We view Remembrance Day as a public recognition of our nation’s experience, freedoms and sacrifices caused by war and conflict… teaching our students to value and participate in their future responsibilities as members of our Canadian society.” In a small part, our school’s faithful attendance at our town ceremonies is part of our Graduate Expectation that each child grows as, “A Responsible Citizen, acknowledging being made in the image of God and aware that personal gifts and talents are to be developed in service to God and others.” In God’s strength, we endeavour to teach in word and in deed! Even small deeds, such as walking into town on a cool November 11th.

  • Book Week - Everyone is welcome to hear Eric Walters speak on Monday morning (SK- 4 @ 9-9:50 and Gr 5-8 @ 10:30-11:30).  This author visit kicks off Book Week at ICS with a variety of activities planned. Students will have an opportunity to buy books from Mrs. Tina Vyn’s Living Books display (see below). They will be given time to visit the display and make a “wish list” of interesting titles which they will then take home to review with parents. On Thursday, students who have parental permission and money return to make their purchases.  Parents are welcome to join their children during this time. Thursday is “Dress-up as your Favourite Book Character Day”. Think of a favourite character to share with your classmates!
  • Living Books is a Christian Catalogue company and has been around for many years.  Tina Vyn has been setting up book fairs at Immanuel Christian School for over 20 years, and proceeds of the sale of Christian books, DVD’s, CD’s and cards go towards purchasing books for the ICS library.  Tina will have a display out on Friday evening, the 13th of November at FFFN.  Since the Auxiliary is no longer holding the annual Christmas Craft Sale, the dinner time is a perfect opportunity to purchase any cards and books you may need for Christmas time.  These tables will also be up during Book Week from November 17-19.  Children love to browse and purchase their own books to read.  We love to see the enthusiasm on their faces when they get their own books.

Band:  The ICS band has after school practices on Mondays from 3:30-4:30pm.  This band is open to Grade 7&8 students only, as we have limited instruments available.  The band will be playing different music than what is being practiced in Gr 7/8 music class.  Band will be meeting every Monday after school, except the first Monday of each month (as Mrs Cameron needs to attend the ICS staff meeting).

Volleyball: Boys volleyball will practice Tue, Wed and Fri at lunch. Girls will practice Mon and Thu at lunch and Weds after school from 3:45 to 4:45. tournament date is Fri Nov 27. Boys and girls have games from 3:30-4:30 on Wed Nov 18, with the girls travelling to St Thomas Community Christian School and the boys playing STCCS in our gym.
