From the Principal’s Desk:
We want to start our New Year as a school with a special Protectors emphasis. The Protectors Freedom from Bullying program puts a special emphasis on Bystanders, who have the most potential to diminish bullying. To help Bystanders become Alongside Standers, this unique program focuses on the creation of courage. Most know bullying and mean treatment is wrong, but many are lacking courage and unable to act as if it’s wrong. Over the next 5 weeks in class devotions and chapels, we’ll emphasize creating courage and defending human dignity, glory, honour, value and worth, which are gifts from God (Psalm 8:4-5). Bullying tells children that others don’t care. But most do - they need courage to put compassion into action as we work to build a school which is a safe, more creative and happy place to learn, work and play. We covet your prayers in this!
in Christian education, Keith Cameron, Principal and Chief Operating Officer
Protectors @ Home: I will feature a weekly home connection activity to build on devotions and chapel. This week, as a family, learn Micah 6:8. Learn our key concept, “Feel fear but do the right thing” by heart. List any ways that we ever behave like a bully. List any ways that we ever behave according to Micah 6:8.
Praying for our families: Please join our staff as we pray for Darryll & Tracy Mantel and Dean & Jennifer Mantel.
Praying for our staff: Please pray for Mr. TenBruggencate
Our condolences: are extended to Mrs. Nancy Robinson and her family in the passing away of her mother, Mrs. Marian Broer, yesterday.  May God surround them with his love and provide and comfort and strength in this time of loss.

Debt Reduction Drive Update: Our pre-Christmas debt reduction drive has brought in $7,000 from 10 families. We are very grateful for all the amounts, and the sacrifice involved! As COO, I sit on the board as a non-voting member. As a school community, we are blessed with ordinary parents and members, who have committed to dedicate their God-given time, talent and finances in service of strengthening our school.  Our Board seeks to “inspire Christian community (us all!) to sustain and prosper ICS”. The debt reduction drive is an effort to allow us as parents to reduce our operating debt caused in part by tuition rates set lower than costs (especially the bursary and incentives).

New Student/Family Information Night: Our 2016 registration season has now begun. Our New Student Information Evening is Friday Jan 22nd at 7:00pm.Young children can visit with our Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Penner for a JK and SK program. I.C.S. BIANNUAL GOODS, SERVICES AND TALENT AUCTION
The G.S.T. Auction is one of our biggest fundraisers at Immanuel Christian School and features live and silent bidding. This year our auction will be held on Saturday, January 30th, 2016 in the school gym.  Doors will open for viewing at 5:00 p.m.  A complimentary dinner of pulled pork, coleslaw and an ice cream bar will commence at 5:30 p.m.  Popcorn and Refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the evening.  The Auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. sharp.  If you plan to join us for dinner, kindly register by emailing jtvannoord@amtelecom.net.  You will also be issued a Bidder Number at that time.
Donation items or services would be greatly appreciated to make this night a successful fundraiser for Christian Education. (No used items please!!!) An auction booklet will be available prior to the night of the auction. If you are able to donate or would like to make a cash donation, simply fill out a Donation Form and drop it off at the school office or, alternatively, send an email to jtvannoord@amtelecom.net.  The deadline for donations is January 20th, 2016.
For the sake of the auctioneer and those bidding, it is necessary that this evening be for an ADULT AUDIENCE.  Babysitting will be available in the Church Nursery across the parking lot.  Kindly contact Jill Vording at jillvording@yahoo.ca if you require babysitting services during the auction.

Classroom “Event Baskets” for the GST Auction. This year, we’re asking every student to be involved in helping to prepare for this important and fun fundraiser. Classrooms will be creating themed “event baskets” for the auction (a “movie night” package, a “games night” package, a “dinner out” package, etc). It will be most flexible if teachers coordinate purchases. Each student should have already contributed $5 by Wed Jan 13 to allow for classes to produce the baskets (please send this in soonest if you’re overdue).

Electives 2016. Electives are a unique part of education at ICS, allowing our grades 4-8 students cross-grade experiences of some neat areas! Options this year include badminton, photography, personal grooming, archery, woodworking, winter sports, cooking and baking, Pinterest decorating / art, and games of strategy, These start on Friday 29 January.

Swim to Survive Students in Grade 3 will be participating in the Canadian Swim to Survive Program from the Lifesaving Society at the St. Thomas YMCA. Swimming sessions start on Friday, January 29, and will take place alongside our grades 4-8 electives program.
