From the Principal’s Desk:
Welcome back! We are thankful for the rest, recuperation and celebration of Christ’s birth. The church season of Epiphany (the coming of the wise men), which we noted today at chapel, reminds us that Christ is to be king over every part of this earth and our lives, something we seek to declare daily in Christian school.
There are a lot of important events coming up, this is certainly a Journal to read in detail! We have a fun morning this Friday with Hat and Gum Day. We lead into a check on academic growth (like a growth chart) with the Winter Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests next week. This should work into teachers and students setting goals for continued growth for the rest of the school year.
This is also a very important season for enrolment and fundraising. Word of mouth is powerful. Is there anyone you could invite to the Info Night on Friday January 22nd? Each student is asked to participate in preparations for the GST Auction, contributing towards exciting “event baskets.” Is there anyone you could invite to our GST Auction on Saturday January 30 to purchase one, or one of the other exciting items? Lastly, we will give you an update on our debt reduction drive results next week. We are very thankful for the donations received to date, and it’s not too late if you haven’t been able to contribute...
in Christian education, Keith Cameron, Principal and Chief Operating Officer
A Very Big Thank-You to Everyone! All of the staff, office personnel, and bus drivers would like to thank everyone for their best wishes, treats, and gifts received throughout the Christmas season. We truly appreciate all the kind gestures of thoughtfulness and goodwill. The ICS community is truly a blessing to be part of, and we greatly appreciate you!
Praying for our families: Please join our staff as we pray for Andrew & Keli-Lyn Lockyer as well as Abe & Leona Loewen
Praying for our staff: Please pray for Mrs. Cameron
Congratulations to the Lockyer family with the birth of a baby boy! Bryan Andrew Murray Lockyer came into the world on Dec 21st and weighed 10lbs and 7oz. Mom and son are doing great!
Regretfully, we bid a farewell to Jennifer, Malachi, Sharon, Ezra and Uriah Klassen as they have moved to St. Thomas and have transferred to Locke’s Public School. If you wish to contact them, you can email them at suskln@icloud.com. As you cross paths, please let them know that the ICS community extends beyond the classrooms.

New Student/Family Information Night: The new year will start our 2016 registration season.
Our New Student Information Evening is Friday Jan 22nd at 7:00pm. We feel strongly that many of our prospective parents are attending churches in our local area. Advertising in our local churches is very important. We will be sending an advertising poster and postcards for our Jump into Kindergarten program home this week for selected families (our Church Ambassadors). If your family receives one and it’s alright with your church, we ask that you please post it in your church right after Christmas in time for the first Sunday of 2016.

Hat and Gum Day Fri Jan 8: This is an annual fun day held to raise funds for international Christian education through the EduDeo Ministries (www.edudeo.com).  Students may buy $1 licences to chew gum and wear hats in class for the entire day. Tickets are also sold for $1 each for fun activities in the gym (face painting, hair braids or washable colour, basketball shooting, bake sale, etc). Students may bring a small amount of money (no more than $5) to participate. Our grade 8s help run this, with parent volunteers. Can you come in on Friday Jan 8 between 8:30 and 10:45 and help in any way? Please call Chantelle Bakker  from Education Committee or the office.

Chess: Grades 3-8 are invited to sign up for the Chess team. Practice will start Monday Jan 11th in the Art Room from 12:05 -12:55 pm. Students can bring their lunches and eat while playing their games. A big Thank you to Mr. Bram de Dreu and Mr. Murray Rodenburg for being our coaches again this year. Also, Thanks to Ms. Buma for being our staff co-ordinator. This year’s Grade by Grade event will be held at the London Hellenic Center on Wed. March 30th.

ICS BIANNUAL GOODS, SERVICES AND TALENT AUCTION: SAVE THE DATE – JAN 30, 2016
The G.S.T. Auction is one of our biggest fundraisers at Immanuel Christian School and features live and silent bidding. This year our auction will be held on Saturday, January 30th, 2016 in the school gym.  If you are able to donate or would like to make a cash donation, simply fill out a form and drop it off at the school office or, alternatively, send an email to jtvannoord@amtelecom.net. Extra donation forms are available in the office.
*Please register if you are attending the dinner by emailing jtvannoord@amtelecom.net. You will also be given your bidder number for the auction upon registration.

Classroom “Event Baskets” for the GST Auction. This year, we’re asking every student to be involved in helping to prepare for this important and fun fundraiser. Classrooms will be creating themed “event baskets” for the auction (a “movie night” package, a “games night” package, a “dinner out” package, etc). It will be most flexible if teachers coordinate purchases, so we’re asking each student to contribute $5 by Wed Jan 13 to allow for classes to produce the baskets.

Electives 2016. Electives are a unique part of education at ICS, allowing our grades 4-8 students cross-grade experiences of some neat areas! Options this year include badminton, photography, personal grooming, archery, woodworking, winter sports, art attack, cooking and baking, Pinterest decorating and games of strategy, These start on Friday 29 January. Student registrations were due today.

Swim to Survive Students in Grade 3 will be participating in the Canadian Swim to Survive Program from the Lifesaving Society at the St. Thomas YMCA. Swimming sessions start on Friday, January 29, and will take place alongside our grades 4-8 electives program.

Intermediate Basketball Teams have been selected. Girls practice Tuesday, lunch recess and Thursday 3:30-5:00 pm. Boys practice Tuesday 3:30-5:00 and Thursday lunch recess. Coaches are Ms. Jones and Mrs. Friesen.
