Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal's Desk:

Well, it was a great three days at Fair Glen Camp, for our grade 7/8 students, parent chaperones and staff alike!  Driving north of Toronto to the Lake Simcoe area, we left the rain behind and had sun for the remainder of our time.  The camp staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, guiding the grade 7s or grade 8s through canoeing, canoe orienteering, high ropes, low ropes, the climbing wall or a wide-area survival game.  We had the pleasure to share the camp with Cambridge Christian School and the Heritage Arrows homeschool group from St Thomas.  A number of musically talented Arrows led us in chapel worship on our second day.  Service groups helped out with setting and clearing dinner tables.  Evenings were filled with recreational time, a night-time game and campfires (I noticed the campfire riddles being re-told on the playground!).

The camp experience prompted reflection and appreciation of God's creation, presented a challenge and taught new skills, developed teamwork, and broadened friendships.  For the grade 7s, we trust that the teamwork will continue into their final year.  For the grade 8s, we trust that they will take with them the ability to develop new friendships, the appreciation of the wonder of creation, and a growing awareness of their God-given place within it.

These last few weeks of the school year are surely very busy!  I encourage all of you to keep up to date through careful reading of the Journal, including the calendar and the specific announcements that follow.  You can also access the Journal through the blog linked from the ICS main webpage...  Happy reading!

in Christ,
//Keith Cameron//

Volunteer opportunity for next year:   We are looking for someone to take over the monthly cheese order fundraiser.  This includes putting notes in the journal, collecting the orders from the office, ordering cheese from our supplier, and sorting once a month. (Cheese is delivered the first Wednesday of every month.)  You would not have to take care of collecting money.  Please talk to Nancy Robinson or Emily Schuurman (schuur7@execulink.com) if you are interested.  We'd be happy to work along side you for a while too!

Another Volunteer Opportunity:  Anyone interested in sprucing up our front flower beds?  Just to freshen them up, trim, pull weeds, re-arrange or add a few plants. This can be set up as a one time job or ongoing, whatever is your preference.  If this is your interest please talk to Keith or Marie.

QUICK CASH FUNDRAISER for the Auxiliary:  If you’re going to be at the June 6th District Track and Field Day in Strathroy, the ICS Auxiliary can use your help.  We need individuals like YOU to set up the food cart, serve food items, and BBQ throughout the day.  If you want to join in all the fun call me at (519) 269 - 9662 or send me a quick e-mail at rbpoortinga@start.ca.   Thank you!

Hat and Gum day is next Wednesday May 30th.  Each class will come to the gym for a short time in the morning and participate in their choice of activities.  These include:  face painting, hair painting, nail painting, hair braiding, basketball shoot and beanbag toss.  There will also be baked goods for sale.  The students will be allowed to chew gum and wear a hat in school for the day by buying a licence.  Each event/item is 50 cents.  The proceeds of this fundraiser go to publishing Christian curriculum.  We suggest that each child brings no more than 5 dollars for the event.  Gum will be available for purchase or you can bring your own.  Please do not send baked goods to school for the bake table.  The Education Committee will provide peanut free items.  Separate combs will be used for each student for hair braiding and hair painting.  Thanks for your support.  It should be a fun morning!
