Mission : The mission of Immanuel Christian
School is to prepare
students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young
and growing Christians. Thus, students
are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of
stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian
service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken
world.

Keep Friday, October 19 open
for our Fundraiser Spaghetti dinner 5:30 – 7:30
From the
Principal's Desk:
I
will be away this Thursday and Friday at the Christian Schools Canada
Conference, being held in Cambridge .
This is an excellent opportunity for networking with leaders in Christian
schools across Canada !
ICS benefits enormously from the curriculum and policy developed mainly by the
Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools, as well as the Society of Christian
Schools of BC, the Prairie Association of Christian Schools and Christian
Schools International. We believe that education is best accomplished in
community, both a strong local community of which you are a part, and a wider
national and international community. We also see our community as
including other local Christian schools. Last Wednesday's afternoon Getty
concert for the students provided a unique opportunity for students from Faith Christian
Academy , St
Thomas Community Christian School ,
John Knox
Christian School ,
Mount Salem Christian
School , area
homeschoolers and ICS to join together in worship and song. Our thanks to
the Getty Committee and all the volunteers for organizing the afternoon and
evening events!
On
a separate note, our son Matthew is now back in school, having been
diagnosed with type 1 diabetes following admission to St Thomas emerg and
Childrens' Hospital emerg. Thank-you for your support and prayers in a
very unsettled last week. We are now adjusting to a new routine of
managing this, and Matthew is feeling much better!
in
Christ,
//Mr
Keith Cameron//

praised and glorified. Thanks to all who
came out for this wonderful opportunity to see the Getty’s in concert and to
join in with fellow Christians, singing and worshiping of God. We would like to thank the organizing
committee Mrs. Sharon Schipper, Mr. Harry Broer, Mr. Kees de Dreu and Mrs.
Trudy Wiebenga for making this concert possible. Also, thank you to all the many volunteers
and workers behind the scene who were involved in this fundraiser. Approximately $10,000 was raised for our
school. Thank you so much!

RIDE
for Refuge: The
RIDE for Refuge is a great cycling event that brings together Christians of
many different churches while raising funds for those in various needs
(http://rideforrefuge.org/canada). This year the RIDE is on Sat Sep
29, starting at 8 am at the Sommerfeld
Mennonite Church
in Mount Salem . Distances are 9 km, 33
km or 51 km. We will field a school team of grade 5-8
students. Mr Cameron will be back from the CSC conference to lead our
student team. Younger students may also ride, under parental
supervision. Permission forms may be found at the end of the
Journal. It costs $25 to register to ride. Sponsorship
over $75 waives the entry fee and earns a RIDE t-shirt ($150 for adults). Sponsorship
forms may be obtained at the office or online. It is of value to
join with other area Christians in support of a good cause - come out and
support the RIDE with your participation!

FROM THE
CLASSROOMS:
School-wide Protectors
Memory Work:
Teachers continue to be excited by our Protectors chapel program. On
Friday, we looked at Jesus' response to injustice, differentiating self-defence
and revenge. This morning we considered how to be strong and
courageous, avoiding becoming a Target. Practical examples included:
- Speak firmly and
confidently
- Avoid places where
bullying takes place
- Smile more
- Walk with other people
- Tell a teacher
- Tell your parents
- Put it on paper
- Make one good friend
Each
chapel includes student readings, prayer and a dramatic skit. The skits
are retold throughout the week, and supply a ready and enduring object lesson -
I've used them later in speaking with individual students. You can follow
along at: https://immanuelchristianschool.wikispaces.com/.
Ask your son / daughter about chapel and the skit!
Memory work for Wed 3 Oct
