Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal's Desk:

As a staff, we are having fun with Fish Days on Friday afternoons, and we trust that your children are too! Our goals include teaching teamwork, creating a sense of wonder for a particular aspect of God's creation with a fishy thematic element, and allowing the students to articulate their ideas and questions. We used our staff meeting to "tune" our lessons together, and we are excited by the creativity, insight and engagement of the students. We will be creating a Fish Days gallery on the gym stage to display student work - give us a week, then come and see!

Our board met last week, and the excitement I feel in our education program was also present in our conversation around the table. We looked at some of the recent educational efforts by the Bill Gates Foundation, and saw how elements in our own program build student engagement and character, including our integrated studies, personalized learning programs in Accelerated Reader, Mathletics (and with Tell Me More French just getting started), Google Apps for education, and student service jobs. These augment the already solid academic core of our educational program. And while Bill Gates seeks to build towards individual success, we seek instead to develop of each student's unique gifts in service to God in all walks of life.

As we work to create excitement and depth to our learning, we need you to be excited and talking as well! Word of mouth is the most valuable advertising! We have space, and for sustainability, we need new families. God has provided a great gift in this school! There are those who care deeply about their Christian responsibility to bring up their children, but are not yet convinced by ICS... help convince them on the value of the investment!

in Christian education,
Keith Cameron, Principal

CEAF: Last night, along with area Christian schools, the board chair, vice-chair and principal met with the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools executive director regarding the CEAF re-assessments. Even if we are disappointed by CRA’s actions, the OACS has been helpful in providing leadership and limiting the extent of the CRA reviews. We are blessed to be part of a wider organization, and we thank them for their efforts. With a need for professional expertise, and with a possible class action suit against CEAF and the OACS, legal efforts have been passed to a private legal firm. If you were a participant in the CEAF program, you should have received a copy of a retainer agreement from the firm Morris, Kepes and Winters. OACS recommends this firm if you wish to pursue legal redress along with other OACS parents, and the package explains initial costs ($491), potential benefits and risks. Many believe that there is a legal contest to be fought. Please prayerfully consider your decision on involvement. There is a deadline for responding by 30 Sep.  (The link to the law firm is http://www.mkwtaxlaw.com/ceaf/ )  We also encourage all our parents to participate in our school survey detailing the impact the CRA reassessments are having. Responses to date indicate that the reassessments are significant, but have not yet generated need for tuition assistance. We accept donations to ICS for tuition assistance (and can issue valid tax receipts for those), and the board will continue to use our confidential Tuition Assistance Committee to address needs brought to their attention. Please contact our Treasurer, Dave VanGurp for further details.

Creation Studies: Last Thursday was a very exciting day in our classroom. The students were watching the chrysalis all morning while trying to do some school work for we knew the monarch butterfly was soon going to be born. Just before we were going to pray for lunch Owen announced that he saw the chrysalis starting to crack open. We all quickly gathered around the table to watch the miraculous birth of the Monarch Butterfly. It was so exciting to be able to watch the tiny wings grow and stretch out. The students were so filled with joy they went out to share the good news with anybody they could find in the school. We soon had many visitors coming in our classroom to see the beautiful monarch butterfly. On Monday morning we tagged the two butterflies before we let them go outside so they can begin their migration journey to Mexico. Our male monarch butterfly's tag code is SGT545 and our female monarch butterfly's tag code is SGT546. We praise and thank the Lord the Master Creator who made such wonderful and beautiful butterflies for us to enjoy.
