Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal’s Desk:

You may notice many recent initiatives aimed at building community, and allowing an opportunity to support Christian education. Tracey Morren has released our ICS online volunteer “sign up genius.” We have the ICS Family Meal at the Central Restaurant on Feb 20 and 21. We also have the much bigger 60th Anniversary Gala on Mar 28. As staff, we are discussing an “ICS Birthday Festival” open house before the Gala on Mar 28 for students, parents, community members, former teachers and alumni.

We have alumni who have not been back to ICS in a long while. We have grandparents and parents who have raised families and grown up in this school. We have a large body of newer parents with only months or a few years of children in ICS. Paul writes to the Corinthians about the body of Christ. While this refers primarily to the universal church, it also applies to us as a Christian school - we are joined in more than just payment of tuition! We are joined in service to Christ as we raise children to know and love their Lord!
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. (1 Cor 12:4-6)
Let us use these events to join together as a community!

Next Tuesday, your teachers will be working hard to prepare the reports for each student. We take seriously our call to know where each student is academically, and also to care about each child’s Christian character, as described in our Graduate Expectations. We will look forward to sharing report cards with you on Feb 25, and during parent-student-teacher conferences on Mar 4. Enjoy your Family Day long weekend!

District #22 consists of Aylmer, Ingersoll, Woodstock and Tillsonburg.  Ten of the representatives from Aylmer won their divisions and now advance to the Regional contest to be held next month in London.  Congratulations to Holly Cameron on a job well done and best of luck with moving on.

Battle of the Books: By now, most student have finished or almost finished reading the 10 books for their division. In order to qualify for the team, a student must have read all 10 books by March 15! Keep on reading - talk to Mrs. Robinson if you need encouragement or a long-awaited title!
This week, students received 2 envelopes of questions - one for Lightning Round and one for Battle Round. The best way to practice is to have someone else (from the family) read the question so they can give the answer. These sets of questions should be returned on Practice Days (Sr team on Mondays and Junior Team on Thursdays) so they can be exchanged for a new set.
Our competition with other area Christian school will be held here in Aylmer on Thursday, April 16!

FROM THE CLASSROOMS:

Staffing News. Mr TenBruggencate will be coming off his disability leave and resuming more teaching duties as of Mon Feb 23. Mr T will pick up responsibility for grades 7/8 Language Arts from Mr Cameron, and History / Geography from Ms Heo. Mr Cameron will still teach Science and Tech, and will be able to increase his administrative time. Ms Heo will continue to share her significant gifts of music with grades 3-8 on Mon and Tue. We ask for your prayers and encouragement for our teachers: for Mr T as he is keen to resume his former duties, while he still deals with the chronic pain from being struck while cycling; and, Ms Heo as she focuses on music while this staffing change reduces her teaching time.
