Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal’s Desk:

May, June… there are quite a few highlight events as we complete this school year! Next week we have our whole-school track and field day, with selected gr 2-8 students competing at the district competition in June. The following week, we have our Notes of Joy band, choir and individual recital. With an unusual staff & grade 7/8 student PA day next Tuesday, we are also starting a six-session mathematics multi-age study on three Friday afternoons. Mr TenBruggencate has laid the groundwork for this with his 7/8 class - thank-you!

Proverb 25:2 declares that, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.” The ICS math curriculum statement cites this verse, with the thought that our students should experience mathematics as a developing science. Mathematics is not a fixed body of knowledge but grows as cultures develop - and is fallible. With a teacher mentor, our senior students will work with our K-6 school family groupings, looking at various cultural discoveries of math (Greek, Roman, Hindu, etc). Working together, we will discover how various cultures and people have “searched out” math - it wasn’t just “there” in a text book! As a whole school, we look forward to discovering God’s glory in math!

in Christ, Keith Cameron

New families needed for the 2015/2016 budget: 4 of 8. Joining his sister Emily, we welcome Colin Hill’s enrolment for gr 6, who we are able to serve with assistive hearing technology! I toured another interested family through our school on Monday. Keep praying for parents as they decide!

2015 New Registration - With plans for an additional teacher, all grades continue to be open! Parents of JK and SK children step into school at ICS with tuition at 40% and 60% of full tuition respectively. Our board continues to support our New to Christian Education Incentive which allows parents of older children to step into Christian schooling at the same rates - 40% the first year, 60% the second, family tuition thereafter. This allows all to “taste and see” how good Immanuel can be! Please continue to spread the word!

Original (1276 × 786)To all our faithful supporters of our paper recycling program: The buyer of our recycling paper program (Thermo-Comfort in St. Thomas) makes insulation from the paper we recycle. Due to the process they have to put the paper through, they can only accept newsprint paper. ie London Free Pree, Aylmer Express, Penny saver, Elgin County Market. They do not accept glossy flyers. Please do not put magazines, catalogues, telephone books, cereal boxes, junk mail, computer paper or brown paper shopping bags. Your town/or township will recycle that kind of paper. Thank-you for you cooperation in continuing with this great free fundraiser for our school!

Cycle of Hope (July 3-18):  How does one show thankfulness to God for His mercy and healing grace in a tangible way?  That was the motivating question that underpinned my decision to take two weeks this summer and ride 1600 kilometers (from Niagara Falls to Winnipeg) in support of a Christian charitable foundation, Habitat for Humanity, in its annual Cycle of Hope. Still suffering lingering physical and emotional effects from the cycling accident that nearly cost my left leg and my life, my older brother invited me to join him in a cause he has supported for many years. It was then I felt God’s leading to close this chapter of my life in a practical way.  I invite you to partner with me by supporting this adventure in prayer and with donations so I can fulfill my obligation of reaching $2500.  Thank you, Mr. TenBruggencate   http://www.habitat.mb.ca/events-cycleofhope.cfm

Science: Why are birds so amazing? “There is nothing in which the birds differ more from human beings than the way in which they can build and yet leave a landscape as it was before.” Robert Lynd
God designed each bird to build a nest suited to its needs. Some hummingbirds nests are only 2 ½ centimeters wide! Bald eagles build huge nests. One was about 2 ¾  meters (9’ feet) wide and 6 meters (20 feet) deep! Swifts build their nests out of their own saliva! And some birds don’t build nests...
Friday, May 15 - Bird Projects are due: Most students are finishing up the research stage of their project work, recording information about their specific bird. Remember to include facts and details about all of the Sub-Titles on your Project Content Outline, girls and boys. Remember also, to cite the Sources used from your research work. Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome. The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’” Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” But Jesus remained silent.” (students can choose weather to do complete the entire verse this week or split up over 2 weeks)
