Wednesday, May 20th, 2015

Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal’s Desk:

Sport often provides a tangible image of what the Christian life involves: both require effort and perseverance. The apostle Paul his readers,“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize” (1 Corinthians 9:24). We want to encourage all our students to test their limits in an age-appropriate way. Our annual school track and field meet tomorrow is an example of how we do this. All students from JK to grade 8 are involved. Students compete for personal bests against pre-set standards, each earning a ribbon as a participant, or for a third, second or first place standing. Everyone is recognized for their best efforts. Based on their scores, we then select students from  grades 2-8 as the ICS Competitive Track and Field team at the Woodstock District Meet on June 3. On that day ICS is closed as all our teachers are involved in helping run events.

As published in last week’s Journal, we will start our day at the East Elgin Secondary School track for the running events, and then return to the school grounds for a round-robin of the field events. Parents are encouraged to cheer and to help at events to make the day run smoothly. Come on out!

in Christ, Keith Cameron

Math Integrated Study - Starts This Friday! Our grade 7/8s & teachers completed PA Day preparations
yesterday for our "Who Discovered Math?" all-grades study on Friday afternoons in May and June. It was a very positive day, with great staff mentorship, student interaction, building of 7/8 leadership skills, and of course... BBQ food! May we praise God's name as we teach about his mathematical order in our world!

JK/SK Orientation morning: Our new Kindergarten students for Sept. 2015-2016 will be having their orientation day on Monday morning, May 25 from 8:30-12:00pm, alongside our current Kindergarten students who will stay for the full day. We look forward to having them join us!

A letter will be sent home for all participating students. Invite your family, and come out to the Palmer Park Bandshell in Aylmer! Remember to bring your lawnchair!
2015 New Registration - With plans for an additional teacher, all grades continue to be open! Parents of JK and SK children step into school at ICS with tuition at 40% and 60% of full tuition respectively. Our board continues to support our New to Christian Education Incentive which allows parents of older children to step into Christian schooling at the same rates - 40% the first year, 60% the second, family tuition thereafter. This allows all to “taste and see” how good Immanuel can be! Please continue to spread the word!

Hiring for a Custodian(s). With sadness, we have accepted resignations from both Mrs Helen Friesen and Mrs Lydia Bergen, effective 30 June 2015. Both ladies are pursuing new opportunities as God opens doors, with Lydia providing foster care and Helen having accepted daytime employment. We have been very blessed by their commitment and hard work as our custodians over the last 2 years! The school has really shone, and the numerous fixes and paintwork have greatly improved our school's appearances. We will miss you and pray for God's blessing on you and your families.

We are now accepting applications, until June 3. Keeping our school clean involves about 30 hours a week in the afternoons, as well as more extensive cleaning once weekly, and over the summer. A full job description may be obtained at the ICS office.

Spring is here, and so is a dress code revision! Following a very respectful approach from several senior girls, and staff discussion, we are pleased to uphold our intent of honouring God with our bodies, while allowing girls’ sleeveless shirts (which need to have straps of at least three finger-widths.). Rule of thumb for shorts: “measure to your thumb-length.”

Yearbook: If you would like to advertise your business in our yearbook please contact the office. Business Card $40, ¼ page $60, ½ page $100, Full page $160, Inside cover $300

Spare Drivers: We are (still!)in  need of Spare Bus Drivers to be available as required to fill in on routes. A valid B License is required. We will assist anyone interested in obtaining their license. Anyone interested in this, please contact the office.

Original (1276 × 786)To all our faithful supporters of our paper recycling program: The buyer of our recycling paper program (Thermo-Comfort in St. Thomas) makes insulation from the paper we recycle. Due to the process they have to put the paper through, they can only accept newsprint paper. ie London Free Press, Aylmer Express, Penny Saver, Elgin County Market. They do not accept glossy flyers. Please do not put magazines, catalogues, telephone books, cereal boxes, junk mail, computer paper or brown paper shopping bags. Your town/or township will recycle that kind of paper. Thank-you for your cooperation in continuing with this great free fundraiser for our school!
