From the Principal’s Desk:
Preparing for our monthly Board meeting, I was reflecting on how our enrolment has changed over the past few years here at Immanuel. Right now, we are on the borderline of being full for SK through to gr 4! God has blessed us! The blessing extends beyond just more students in Christian education. Our growth last year directly led to a much more favourable “cost per student” number, meaning your 2015 tax receipts are bigger. We have changed our New to Immanuel incentive to allow us to better meet our costs. But, without the former tuition incentives filling up “empty” seats, we would have a much emptier school of maybe 79 children - in fact, we are at 121! Without the growth, we would have had to consider amongst tough choices: increasing tuition a lot, or letting a teacher go, and triple grades in 3/4/5 or 6/7/8… That is not the story today - instead it is one of our board committed to managing growth well, preserving program excellence and growth in Christian character. Our community is enriched by every family, “core” or “new” - let’s tell that story!

Protectors @ Home: We’re in the OACS news! See our Facebook post for the link. As well as being published (which is good for encouraging others to think on this too), we want to keep our focus on taking courage and doing the right thing. We have attached a booklet to this Journal to help with that at home. May God bless our actions as we seek to be faithful to him in this area and grow community.

Galatians 5:22-26 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”
Mathmatics: We are starting new units that continue with Fractions. Try online games to practice this skill.
Spelling: List 16 quiz and worksheet is due on Friday.
Health:  Test on Monday, Feb. 22 covering “People Need People”. Students may sign out test books from Mr. TenBruggencate.
Language Arts: LA is easily applied as a cross curricular. Is your child struggling to use capitals in the correct place, knowing proper punctuation, spelling and how to start and end a sentence with good grammar? LA is being applied in penmanship by learning literary devices such as hyperbole, simile, alliteration and metaphors. Ask your child to explain what these are. Novel reading helps us through teacher modeling of expression, comprehension and recognition of literary devises. We are currently reading The City of Ember.
Social Studies: Some students are not getting their notes complete to their grade level. Please check planners to see if your child needs some help. Books are sent home for completion if they don’t ask for help at school.
