From the Principal’s Desk:
¡Hola! Welcome back from March Break! I trust that, whatever your plans, you were able to enjoy some extra time as a family. My sister-in-law, Tracy, and her husband own a holiday apartment along the Spanish Costa Blanca. We have been saving for 6 airfares for a while, and my family was privileged to be able to spend the break with them. Our first meal in Spain was in a rural village where we’d “accidentally” arrived during siesta time at the one restaurant still open. Tracy was able to ask for a table for 8 and the owner / chef indicated that he’d send us out a selection of tapas. The various dishes included toast, fried garlic potatoes, fried mushrooms, fried cheese, squid(!), swordfish and chicken… We were brave, and soon full. Thinking we’d agreed to the bill, we instead found we’d ordered desserts! It was a fun introduction to Spain. It also got me thinking on the diversity of God’s creation: scenery, food, language, culture and people! As a Christian school, in partnership with parents, we hope to develop an appreciation of all of creation, the familiar and the exotic, a marvelling at math, geography, history, art, science, languages, music, and sport. Our education is not just about how we can use knowledge, but should help us see more of who God is, and who we are becoming like! By doing that, our children may be salt and light in a world that needs it. The recent terrorist attacks in Brussels (in an airport and city very familiar to me), show how desperate that need is.
This is a short, busy week with Easter so close. We look forward to connecting at conferences tonight, and through the “Let’s Connect to Grow” forms that were included with report cards. All forms are due back today - if you forgot, please get it in tomorrow before the Easter weekend!

Please don’t miss out: failure to register for 2016/17 by March 30th will result in a $200 late registration fee.

It was necessary, but bittersweet, to remove the two ash trees in our playground. A big thank-you to Dan Dykxhoorn, Jeff and Nathan Zylstra, Rick Dykxhoorn, and Andy Kroondyk for felling them without incident on Saturday March 12! Thanks, too, to Andre Kroondyk for purchasing the wood! The sale will cover the cost of equipment rental and go towards replacement trees. If you know any good sources of Carolinian trees (such as locust, perhaps), please speak to Mr Cameron.

The Meat & Baked Good Fundraiser wants YOU!!!
Approx 6 hrs of volunteer hours are earned with every sale...times that by 4 sales a year and it would be about 24 hrs per school year! As a committee we gather info from varies companies about their products and any price changes, assemble the order form for the journal, tally orders and fax the companies then when day of pick up comes we sort the products into separate orders for customers to pick up. We would love to see your new face helping on the committee! Come and join us!  Please contact the office if you are interested.

Announcing a Transition. Mr Evert TenBruggencate has decided that he will take the “early retirement” option in our teachers’ pension plan effective at the end of this school year. We are pleased to announce that he will continue on at ICS as our part-time health and phys ed specialist, teaching grades 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8. We will celebrate Mr T’s teaching career when he decides to fully retire, but he is clear that is not yet! He is looking forward to more time to keep fit, and a pace of life that doesn’t pain his knee quite as much. We wish you God’s blessings in this new phase of life! A job opening for a 7/8 and French teacher has now been posted (http://lightbringers.oacs.org/) with an early application deadline of 1 April. Who is God preparing to add to our staff?

Memory Work: for Wed, Mar 30
He's still working on me
To make me what I ought to be
It took him just a week to make the moon and stars
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
How loving and patient He must be
'Cause He's still workin' on me

There really ought to be a sign upon my heart
Don't judge me yet, there's an unfinished part
But I'll be better just according to His plan
Fashioned by the Master's loving hands.
