From the Principal’s Desk:
We know we were made for so much more
Than ordinary lives
It's time for us to more than just survive
We were made to thrive
We as staff were able to join with hundreds of other Christian educators at our Edifide Annual Convention last Thursday and Friday. This week, in addition to the striking lyrics our theme song “Thrive” by Casting Crowns, I’ll include just a sample of some of our “take-away” impressions:
  • Connections, courage, creativity - an anatomy of learning...
  • Our minds are connected to our physical bodies - movement, environment and learning are linked.
  • It takes connection to be effective.
  • We cannot give what we do not have - let’s fill up!
  • Regarding mental illness, we often lack the language to express our hurts or offer help…
  • What an opportunity to connect with other teachers at our grade levels!
  • We are blessed when we worship together.
  • God is a Creator, not a manufacturer.
Yours in Christian education, Keith Cameron, Principal and Chief Operating Officer
Each week, during staff devotions we join in prayer for our parents and staff members. We invite you to do so as well.
Praying for our parents: Please pray for Abe & Tricia Giesbrecht and George & Susie Guenther. Please continue to keep Lydia Loewen and her children in your prayers as they travel to Belize to be with her father for the next few months.

The G.S.T. Auction is one of our biggest fundraisers at Immanuel Christian School and features live and silent bidding. This year our auction will be held on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 in the school gym.
What is the G.S.T. Auction?  Individuals and businesses make donations of goods, services and talents.  In the past, we have auctioned items such as gift baskets, baked goods, gift certificates, Police Ride-a-Long, tools, furniture, house cleaning, meals, desserts, babysitting services, one week’s stay at a cottage or condo, gourmet dinners, seats to a concert, game or play, tractor driving, pool parties, photography services, Ladies’ day out, manual labour and wheels of gouda cheese. Donation items or services would be greatly appreciated to make this night a successful fundraiser for Christian Education. (No used items please!!!) An auction book will be available on the night of the auction. If you are able to donate or would like to make a cash donation, simply fill out the attached form and drop it off at the school office or, alternatively, send an email to jtvannoord@amtelecom.net.
We extend our thanks to Jesse Vannoord, our auctioneer, for agreeing to conduct this evening. For the sake of the auctioneer and those bidding, it is necessary that this evening be for an ADULT AUDIENCE.

JR / SR KINDERGARTEN - Mrs. Penner (s.penner@immanuelchristianschool.net)
October is Children’s Vision Month. Most kids don’t know what good vision looks like, so they can’t always tell you that they can’t see clearly. Most parents are unaware that up until a child turns 20, OHIP covers the cost of their annual eye exam. Regular eye exams with an optometrist will detect any issues. That’s why Children’s Vision Month is a month dedicated to promoting eye health and eye exams to all children and their parents. The program offers Junior Kindergarten students a complimentary pair of glasses if they are prescribed, following an OHIP-covered eye exam with a participating optometrist. To be eligible the child must be born in 2013 and attend any JK program including home schooled.  For more information please contact Kim Giles at esel@optom.on.ca 1-855-424-3735 ext 231.
Book Fair: If you didn’t get a chance to make a purchase at the book fair, you are welcome to come visit with your parents on Thursday, Nov. 2 from 5:30-7:00pm. Parents who visit the book fair will get a ballot for a family draw. The student AND his/her teacher could win $25 worth of books for their home and classroom.
Library: SK students have a library book exchange each Monday morning. Please use the red and blue polka dot library bag to help your child keep his/her library books safe from hiding on the shelf with home books. Please remember to return these books in the red and blue polka dot library bag each Monday (or earlier).
