Mission : The mission of Immanuel Christian
School is to prepare
students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young
and growing Christians. Thus, students
are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of
stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian
service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken
world.

From the
Principal's Desk::
We
are finishing up the first term this Friday. Often, there is a bit of a
panic amongst students to get books to complete their term Accelerated Reader
goals. Panic, however, is not the educational theme here... improving
literacy skills is. Accelerated Reader is our software assessment tool
that assesses a student's reading level, suggests titles of books at that
level, and then assess whether a student has completed reading the book by
asking a series of quiz questions. Teachers assign individual goals at the
beginning of the term based on a student's reading abilities, and it is
important that your children are reading throughout the term and taking the
tests to confirm their comprehension of the material read. Please be part
of a conversation with your children (of all ages) on how they are progressing,
have them read to you nightly, or summarize the book for you. In today's
information-rich society, reading for comprehension is certainly a 21st Century
skill, and reading for Christian discernment is one step further...
For
some children, it is too late to complete their term 1 goals. We will
note this on report cards, and they will have opportunity to work towards new
term 2 goals. In a move to eliminate the perception of "AR
punishment" we have de-linked the December school skate from AR - all may
participate in that. We may opt for a more modest measure to reward those
who have worked diligently and achieved their AR goal - I am open to
suggestions on that!
As
a reminder, tonight is our Fall society membership meeting - even if you are
not (yet) a member, come out and be a part of how our school is governed.
Membership is separate from enrolment, requires an application and
agreement with our statement of faith, and costs $25 per person. Be
involved - I recommend all eligible parents to be members!

His service,
//Keith
Cameron//
Principal
Praying for our Families: Last week Thursday we
prayed for Cory & Jodie Hibbert, Chris & Christy Hiemstra.
Praying for our Staff: This week we will pray for Mr. Cameron and
continued healing for Mr. TenBruggencate.
Gr 5-8 Remembrance Field
Trip:
The grades 5/6 and 7/8 classes are researching the WWII servicemen who
died on active duty at the Aylmer Air Training Centre (now the police college).
We will visit the gravesites at the Aylmer Cemetery
at 11 am on Thu Nov 8, along with a Legion member, and will pause to reflect on
the sacrifices made and the cost of defending our country throughout our
history. Permission forms were due by Tue Nov 6, and are required to
leave the school property.
Remembrance Day: as Nov 11th falls on a
Sunday this year we will not be able to attend the Aylmer ceremonies as a school. The
Aylmer CRC has rescheduled their service to 9:30 AM so that congregation
members may participate with the town service too. As a school, we
will have two senior students lay a wreath. Come out and participate if
you are able.
Poppies were distributed today. If you still wish to make a donation to support
our veterans please send it in tomorrow.
Thanks.
Reminders:

fee, there will be an opportunity to do so at the door.
Don’t forget that next
Wednesday Nov. 14 is our hot lunch. This time we are offering

Whole-school memory work for this week. We're continuing to focus on our Christmas production, Greetings from the Heart. Students will learn Silent Night by heart as our mass choir piece. Recognizing our national and community heritage, we will sing it in English, French, German and Dutch. This week it is verse 1, en Français. Here is the link to YouTube so you can learn the pronounciation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXr5U7D_krQ&feature=related
